On November 25, the young teachers of our school wrote a letter article entitled "aiming for fish friendly hydropower plants" on the 6571 curly table in the 374 issue of science magazine. Jiangsu University is the only author of this article, and researcher Zhou Ling of the national water pump and system engineering technology research center is the corresponding author.

Under the guidance of the goal of "carbon peaking and carbon neutralization", the proportion of wind power, photovoltaic and other new energy sources in the global energy structure has increased significantly, and the safe operation of the power grid is facing great challenges. Pumped storage power station has unique advantages of peak load and frequency regulation, and has become the mainstream technology of clean energy storage. How to reduce the ecological environmental problems caused by the development of power stations and strengthen the protection of biodiversity such as fish has become a research hotspot at home and abroad. This paper systematically summarizes the technical advantages and application status of pumped storage power stations, summarizes the fish passing mechanism of pump turbines and common types of fish damage, summarizes the existing fish protection measures and methods, and calls for a multidisciplinary joint research based on mechanical engineering, hydrodynamics and biology to further strengthen the research and development of fish friendly pump turbines.
